South Lanarkshire Access Panel are a group of people who either have a disability or support people with a disability. Panel members are volunteers who work in partnership with equality officers from South Lanarkshire Council.

We aim to ensure that all those who live, work and visit South Lanarkshire are able to access the services and facilities that the area has to offer in a way that best meets their needs.

We believe in equality for all and work towards improving access for everyone at a local and national level. For us that’s making sure that people can have access to education, leisure centres, shops, offices, and transport as well as technology and information.

Our main business is to consider current planning applications for public buildings in South Lanarkshire and advise on any accessibility issues. Our main business is to consider current planning applications for public buildings in South Lanarkshire and advise on any accessibility issues.

We carry out access audits in the community to help:

  • remove barriers and improve physical access
  • expand social inclusion for people with disabilities in their local communities
  • promote and raise awareness about disability equality and accessible environments to achieve a positive change in attitudes
  • promote and raise public awareness of the Panel and encourage others to become members of the panel
  • build good relationships in the community and identifies opportunities for partnership working
